Interviews anyone

I applied early decision to columbia. i just got an email from a recent alumni requesting an interview.

is this a good thing or bad thing that they are requesting an interviewing? i know not everyone gets a shot at one, but im not exactly stellar at interviews.

also , does participating in an interview increase admissions rates? i recently did a interview for MIT. my interviewer told me that the chances of getting in to MIT increased by over 10 percent for people who decided to take an interview versus people who didnt, but that might be different since you could volunteer for it or not.

im a little worried but i hope getting asked to be interviewed is good news

Do a search. There are tons of threads on this.

As they say -- lies, damn lies, and statistics. Your instinct is right, though. The only people who are going to decline an interview are the people who don't give a damn about MIT and don't want to be bothered.... so it's a misleading stat.

It means nothing one way or another. You need to do the interview, though. If you turn it down, it'll look bad. Participating will help you a little bit if you have a good interview. For most people, it won't matter. If you suck, it'll hurt you.
