Interviews (yikes)

Hey you guys! I'm CinderellaGirl, and like everybody here, applying for prep schools. So I've had my interviews.....and I thought they went well. But I was just wondering, what was the best comment in an interview you've had? I got some good comments and was just wondering if everybody got those...or if they actually mean it. So what kind of comments did you get? Did any school every tell you you were accepted? (or any comment like that) were you every told by an interviewer a really great thing but then didn't get into the school? Thanks a lot guys! This is my first post, o sorry if i'm doing anything wrong....

CinderellaGirl

"your personality and grades seem like a perfect fit for Miss Porters" was the best and most amazing comment I got. Hah, I was ecstatic the whole ride home!
Welcome to CC. I'm Crickett.

hey Cinderella Girl! I'm nelly, welcome to CC! i've gotten some really good comments, but nothing out of the ordinairy. i think everybody gets pretty good comments? But if they told you something good, i'm sure they probably mean it, i can't seem them getting kids hopes up for nothing. what do you guys think?

Since parents are not in with the kids for the most part, I can't comment on that. I can say that all schools have made some kind of comment to US complimenting out son. They have all been pretty similar "your son displays great maturity, we had a great talk...." From there, all but one said things to us that either outright or in a more subtle way told us that he's the kind of student they look for or that he would do well there. One CLEARLY did not say that. Not surprisingly, it was the one school that we all felt was not a good fit after the tour, so I'm sure his interview was not as strong.

In any case, I think they try to say something nice to everyone. I also don't think they say things that would intentionally mislead a candidate into thinking they have a better chance than they do of being accepted. That said, I have heard stories of students at the TOP schools being told they were really strong candidates and then not getting in. So anything is possible.

Haha actually I did,

At SPS the interviewer told me that I would definitely have choices, many choices.

At taft the interviewer told me I like hit the ball out of the ball park.

The hotchkiss interviewer called my family twice following the interview, trying to set up a phone call with the hockey coach.

ummm they others basically just said i did a great job

hockeykid841: you lucky duck.

haha yeah but having lived in 4 countries and having seen all walks of life sure does help

i'll second cricket: Lucky duck.

i havnt had ANY of my interviews yet..but they are coming up soon. i suppose i cant really ask anyone on here how to prepare for interviews..but i would like some suggestions for an outfit!! (im out on the knee length skirts)
thank you!!

hmmm "Your personality fits Hotchkiss and I'm assuring you now that I will give you a very strong recommendation. I hope you get in" Pretty much happiest moment that week

the alumni who interviewed me told me he could guarantee 99% that I would get into Exeter. and i did =)

i looked at pomfret and i didnt like it...but the one thing that made me completely mark it off. was when the dean who interviewed me said "i dont think u will have a problem getting in" i like the chase i want to work hard for the school i go to i definitely didnt feel a connection there...

Andover interviewer told my D she was "the best candidate to walk through my door in two weeks" and told us that he asked her what it would take for her to choose Andover. He was practically gushing over her. We thought for sure she was going to be accepted. But, he was only one person on the admissions committee, not the decision-maker.

She was rejected, following which the interviewer never returned our three phone calls. So, word to the wise, positive comments received during the interview are just that and the only guarantee is when you find the fat envelope in your mailbox on March 10!

The interview is but one part of your application, as are SSAT scores, grades, recommendations, and ECs. If you know you don't want to attend your current school next year, be sure you apply to a variety of schools, including safeties and matches, not just reaches.

same with me @ Tuesdayair

one of the interview people from andover came to my school to give us tips and advice about the interviews
still nervous though, i havent even scheduled them yet, (yikes)
any tips?

jon, just be yourself. be nice. don't be a snobbish spoiled brat. give them something to remmeber you by.

Exeter pretty much told me I was in, and half the interview was my interviewer telling me about the Stratford Program I should do (but never got to, sadly enough). Hotchkiss told my mother they liked me - to which my mother promptly responded "Well, Hotchkiss isn't our top choice. She'd go to Andover or Exeter if she got in." That didn't go over too well...

lol, that's hilarious.

pretty much.
...do I know you? You said you were an Exeter four-year...

It's Justin.
