Interviews

How important are interviews?
what happens if I decline , hypothetically?
What do they ask and how can I prepare for it?
I submitted my app two days ago, and i got an email saying that a member of the alumni representative committee was asked by the columbia office of undergrad to offer me an interview

Third from the top is a thread called “Helpful Columbia Threads” Go there

The interview FAQ thread has been deleted.

I would think that declining an interview would be A Bad Thing.

Yes declining would be bad. The alumni interviewers might help but they could hurt so go in prepared (but not overly prepared). Look at some typical interview questions and think how you would answer them. They are looking for passion and will take the interview where every you want it to go. My S1 interviewer asked him “Why even go to college?” since he already could find a 100k+ job programming. His answer was just what Columbia (or any top school) would want - to meet interesting talented people to push him further. Good luck!
