Invitation to a Dialogue: College Admissions Frenzy

When my kids were applying, even though they applied SCEA to one school, we strongly urged them to complete all the applications before the SCEA deadline, and not wait for the SCEA results. We didn’t want them to wait and then have to rush during the RD process. This created more work for them than was probably strictly necessary, and it cost some money because we also submitted the RD apps before hearing about the SCEA school (we could have waited, but we wanted to get it over with). I think each of them failed to complete one or two apps, for schools they were less interested in, but they mostly did them all. I think this had the virtue of doing a better job on all the applications, and of immunizing them somewhat from the possibility of rejection by the SCEA school.
