Iowa State Engineers

Is anyone else going there to do that other than me? Or is anyone currently enrolled in the program i could ask some questions to?

I wish I could help, maybe if you post a specific question, it will catch someone's eye.

I am a high school senior going into engineering, I could make it into both UW-Madison and Iowa State. Which is a better engineering college?

If you’re judging by the rankings it would be UW-Madison. I would suggest visiting both colleges. We visited both schools, actually UW-Madison twice. After his scholarship awards the cost to attend either was about the same. In the end, my son chose ISU because it was a better fit for him.

bball, ISU has an excellent rep for engineering esp in the midwest. Although the rankings for UW are indeed higher, you should definitely look at the “weed out” potential for both schools. I know that at UW you must apply to get into your specific engineering program, and some are very competitive. Is this the case at ISU?

Also, look at the resources on campus to help you get valuable experience doing research assistance, co-op or internships. These resources are not strong at UW but I cannot vouch for ISU. And I can tell you that relevant work experience will be much more valuable to you in the job market than the dubious prestige of better USNWR rankings!

I have visited both campuses, and could see myself at either one of these colleges. I do not know if at ISU you need to apply for the specific program, i will have to look into that. But i do know that they do stress the importance of co-ops. When i visited UW they really did not mention internships or co-ops. Thanks

i am a computer engineer here at isu. you do not need to apply to any specific program and from what i have seen here on campus it isn’t particularly difficult to switch from one program to the other if you come to find that the one you are enrolled in does not suit you.

I have a few friends who got into other schools but chose ISU because of the excellent reptutation and that it was a good fit for them.
