@ettphonehome It’s not a full ride, but it’s more than tuition. As a ChemE major, you’d get full tuition PLUS 2500 per year.
I recently just received my admissions acceptance to Alabama! How long until I receive scholarship details?
Hi! If both schools are relatively the same price, which would you recommend! I would appreciate more feedback, thanks in advance!
'Bama, hands down . . . as long as you don’t have serious nostalgia for the school closer to home. Also, how much do you know about Greek life? How important is that to you?
I’m not sure what it’s like to rush for women from OOS, especially a geographic area outside the south.
I don’t know a lot, but I’d like to be involved in it! @SouthFloridaMom9
Are you a legacy at a house? Maybe somebody will chime in on greek life experiences.
Nope! Haha I’m pretty different from the rest of my family. @SouthFloridaMom9
That’s OK . . . I was first generation too.
It is NOT difficult for an OOS student to join a sorority at the U of Alabama, as long as you do your prep work. Grades are the top priority, so you’ve got that covered. Next are connections, which you can cover by getting recommendations from sorority alumnae. Start asking NOW among your mom’s friends, your friends’ parents, who is a sorority alum. Not just your mom’s friends - men have sisters, wives, mothers, and daughters who are sorority alumnae. Keep track of who you find, what sorority, and contact info. Go ahead now and ask if they will write you a recommendation. These ladies do NOT have to have gone to Alabama! Just be a member of a sorority with an Alabama chapter.
After Christmas, put together packets with your resume, photo, and transcript. You’ll give these to the ladies writing your recommendation. After graduation, you may want to send them an updated transcript. Follow with a thank-you note to show what a well brought up young lady you are, and to jog their memory to get their recommendation sent off!
This will work not just for Alabama but for any school where you go through sorority recruitment. Best of luck!
