Here's my situation:

-Accepted into Iowa State University as a Mechanical Engineer, with a $5500 scholarship.

-Accepted into University of Minnesota Twin Cities - College of Liberal Arts. Waitlisted for the College of Engineering. No Scholarship.

I really want to be an engineer. I could go to Minnesota and transfer into their Engineering program after one year (I could do this if I don't get off the engineering wait list).

OR, go to Iowa State as a Mechanical Engineer right away.

Both are the same distance from me (6-7 hours), both are about the same price. Visited both campuses and love them!

If anyone could help give me guidance on this predicament, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How much cheaper is Iowa State with that scholarship? Is it renewable for all four years, and do you need to maintain a certain GPA? If you lose the scholarship because of your grades, what will ISU cost you then?

Right now I’d recommend ISU because you are already accepted in Engineering. What would you do at UMN-TC if you can’t transfer into Engineering?

Iowa State is about $25,000 with the scholarship (this includes room and board) and it IS renewable all four years. You need to maintain a GPA of 2.0. If by odd chance I lose the scholarship, it will cost around $30,000.
Minnesota costs about $25,000 as well.

If I couldn’t transfer into engineering at UMN-TC, I’d probably go for a B.A. in computer science, but I KNOW I wouldn’t be as thrilled with doing that as I would with engineering.

Then I think you have your answer. Go to ISU so you can start out for certain in engineering.
