iPod Video question

i got an ipod video today. i have movies on my computer and want to know how to put them on my ipod. i tried the "add file to library" on itunes and it didnt work. thanks!

The video Ipod only plays a small range of video types. They are:

*H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320x240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480x480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats*

Apparently the best way to do this is to open the video in quicktime and use that program's "export to ipod" option.

^^^ i just PMed u.

http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/

use the one-click transcode option

otherwise, you have to pay for QuickTime Pro...

PQ DVD to iPod and imToo ipod movie converter are what I use. Both are faster and more dependable than videora and quicktime. You do have to pay for them...however you really dont if you know where to search ;)

it worked for me using videora! if anyone needs help with the conversion, then PM me.

If you're using OS X, I recommend ffmpegx, available for free at http://homepage.mac.com/major4/

There's a bit of configuration that needs to be done (a few outside tools that need to be downloaded) but once that's done you should be able to convert videos to all sorts of formats, including those supported by the video ipod which were mentioned above. If you're having trouble, I'd try selecting "Decode with QT (quicktime)". Not sure what it does, but it seems to make a difference...

There are instructions specifically for putting video on the ipod using ffmpegx here: http://homepage.mac.com/major4/ipod.html

Good luck! I got a video ipod for christmas and have been encoding videos for it using ffmpegx on my mac.

I just got one and i have Ares to download music for free and i've downloaded videos but the iPod and iTunes wont play them...i can't get them into the iPod...what do i do?

^^^have u converted the movies to mpeg-4 files? if not then download "videora ipod converter". once you have the program click "convert". then click "transcode new video". then find where your movie file is and click "open". then go to "setup" and then "profiles" and then for video settings put 768 kbps on bit rate. then for profile name type in the name of ur movie. then click apply. then go to "convert" and click "start" for a full length movie it should take a couple hours to transcode. when the transcoding is terminated, go to itunes and go to file and click "add file to library"....but add the TRANSCODED movie(the mpeg 4 movie file). then it will copy it onto itunes which should take a couple of minutes. when ur finished just hook up the ipod and the movie will be transfeerrred to the ipod.

one question from me: when i hook up the ipod to itunes, it takes about 10 minutes for itunes to recognize that the ipod is hooked up. my ipod is only 4 gb filled up out of 30 gb. how can i make itunes recognize the ipod faster? thanks!

thank u so0o0 much i had no idea wat i was doing but ur directions helped me out a lot...and as 4 ur question...for mine it does the same thing i don't kno why and i can't help u because i know less than u bout this sorry
