Can anybody help me on two things -
the ranking of Brown’s IR program, is it one of the best?
and any details about the program that make it good or different from the others

check out the watson institute, the IR department at brown is world renowned and certainly one of the best.

http://www.watsoninstitute.org/

it's different from others in several ways, as you'll find out from exploring the site

1) There is a lot of flexibility in the concentration requirements to pursue unique multidisciplinary tracks of study

2) undergrads interact directly with the star faculty, both inside and outside the classroom--this includes former statesmen and diplomats as well as the leading intellectuals in their fields.

you may learn about the race relations and the socioeconomics of development from the former president of Brazil, political movements from the founder of China's democratic party, or the cold war from Nikita Kruschev's son

3) special seminars and lectures from big players--last year robert macnamara came to talk to students about the cuban missile crisis. events on this scale happen almost weekly--the most recent was a talk by India's External Minister of Affairs

4) international opportunities. there are many opportunities to practice your studies abroad--both through semester or year long study abroad programs and paid summer internships

5) undergrad's write and edit most of the articles in the watson institute's Brown Journal of World Affairs

It is absolutely one of the best.

To add to dcircle's list, it also has a reputation for a strong multi-disciplinary component. For example, I'm currently considering an IR major, and among the classes that I'll be taking for it are classes in history, anthropology, Africana Studies, Russian, Hispanic Studies, political science, and economics.

All three messages great. Ir at Brown seems perfect.. Thank you very much
