IR Grad School Application

Hey everyone,

I’m a senior undergraduate double majoring in IA/Poli Sci looking to apply to a top-tier IR grad program (namely JHU, GW, AU, Syracuse, Pitt, and maybe Georgetown). Specifically, I would look to do a program focusing on European politics and studies. My application seems very strong in most areas, my GRE Verbal was 166 and AWA was 5.5, I have a 3.89 undergrad GPA, I’m writing an honors thesis, and I have over a year of internship experience (a few months of which were through a study abroad program). However, the one lacking aspect of my application is my GRE quant score, which is 151. I have taken 3 economics courses and a research methods course in undergrad and I did very well in all of them (an A in research methods, A- in principles of macro, B+s in principles of micro and international econ.). I have a very busy schedule for the immediate future (multiple on-campus jobs, classes, and thesis, not to mention all of the social aspects of senior year). Would it be worth retaking the GRE just to improve my quant score, or is my very average quant score sufficient on top of my other GRE scores and the other aspects of my application? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

IMO I think you don’t need to take anymore GRE… your stats already demonstrate that you are academically and intelligently qualified. Doing well on quantitative related courses at college (econ classes) should look better than a GRE quant score which is basically high school math… To be honest I wish I could have your GRE scores and GPA… ahaha. I am also an IR master’s program hopeful. Good luck. (Would appreciate if you could also comment on my threat regarding IR admission)
