Is 1550 SAT with 6/2/6 essay worth a retake?

SAT breakdown is 790 RW and 760 M. Will my essay score be a red flag to colleges?

Last time I took the SAT I got a 1470, but with a 6/6/6 essay.

A 6/2/6 is a really strange score. That means each reader gave you a 1 on the Analysis section, correct? I wouldn’t worry too much about the Essay score. Especially since you had a 6/6/6 earlier so you clearly know how to write. Will you be sending both scores to colleges?

Yeah, that’s how it breaks down. It’s weird, I can’t figure out why I got a two in analysis.
I’m planning to send both scores, mainly because of the essay score.

I don’t think they care about the essay. Probably because of erratic grading.

It was graded by two graders - BOTH gave it ONE point. That is not erratic grading. That is something major was missed or incorrect in the essay.

You are fine. I am not sure the SAT even matters anymore.

Your scores on the essay portion probably won’t matter for admissions. However, you do need to see what happened. Reading and writing take up the most time in college, but reading is the best means of improving fluency, speed and comprehension. Students show writing problems such as choppy prose, lack of organization, few transition words such as therefore or in conclusion, incorrect or redundant vocabulary choicesp, poorly developed ideas, etc. What may help includes outlining or organizing your ideas before writing, wait overnight before proofreading the essay, reading the essay aloud to hear stilted or poorly communicated words and ideas, conform to a word or page count, eliminate words that don’t contribute to the quality organization of the essay such as go ahead and X, watch out for thesaurus errors such as selecting a word from the choices that has a different meaning, etc. Pay attention to good writers such as Ian Fleming whose prose gently advances meaning. Good luck.
