Is $8.8k a year worth it to live on campus as a transfer?

admitted transfer here, and my estimated net cost that includes on-campus housing would come out to $8,800. Is that the usual amount people end up paying? It said I qualified for Blue & Gold yet somehow it didn’t show up under the grant aid listed (just pell, cal, and UCSD grant). i think it was because supposedly it was already covered with the aid i received? im unsure.

however, i am also a local student and could probably just stay at home and commute, but i really wanted to have a nice college experience and my home life ain’t exactly great. having said that, i know how awful the commute is. i live relatively close but the traffic in that area is horrendous at certain hours.

is it worth it to pay/borrow $17.6k for 2 years (or maybe just $8.8 for 1 year) to live on campus or should i just stay home and not pay a dime?

i could probably afford to pay about 1 year from my own money, but i dont think i could afford the second year. and i just think it might feel awful, mentally speaking, to go from living independently for a year to having to return back to your past living condition during senior year where you don’t even have a bedroom and you have to do chores for parents and worry about their problems and stuff.

i am low income/1st gen, so my parents won’t be able to contribute (both financially and scholarly-environment-wise.)

I’d contact financial aid about the Blue & Gold and ask they why it didn’t show up under grant aid listed. Don’t make assumptions, mistakes can happen.
