I'm a freshman in college looking to major in economics. I've heard from many people that people who get a BA in economics will most likely be unemployed unless he/she goes to graduate school. However, I also heard that many companies and firms hire a lot of undergrad economic majors and get paid very well.

So my question is, should i major in economics? If I do, will i get a decent job with a stable income?

EDIT: Re-posting this because I originally posted this in the wrong forum.

Talk with your schools Econ department about the major. There are different degree programs depending if your goal is graduate school, business, or a professional program. You can graduate with a BA in Econ and employable skills. Which does not ensure a strong (or weak) job market in 3-4 years, or later in your career.

The New Yorker had an article a while back saying that for strictly UG degrees the only degree more valuable than Econ is Engineering and that is a slight advantage.

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to go into business, you will probably work for around three years after graduating and then go to grad school. An econ major would certainly be valuable for getting that initial job.
