Is A Duke Undergraduate Degree Worth 80k Debt?

Let’s put this in a very simple, “shallow” way. If somehow you can come up with the 20K per year and afford to do so, then definitely Duke all the way. If it is much more than a minor burden to come up with the 20K and either you or your family will become financially deep in crisis, then obviously UF with the scholarship all the way (if it’s not meant to be, then it’s not meant to be.) But if you can somehow go to Duke, as was stated in many of the posting above, it will be a tremendous opportunity to be attending an elite college with all the perks it brings.

You’re luck to only have to pay $20k/yr for Duke. Nowadays many students have to pay more than that for a much less prestigious in-state public school …

OP - I hope Duke will renegotiate your fin aid package based on your dad’s updated circumstances. If not, would you consider taking a gap year? Learn to code this summer and work for a year. You will be making money and then have a way to continue to work part-time while at Duke the next 4 years.

Tell us where did you finally decide to attend?
