Is a full load required for Summer B?

My son applied for Summer B admission because we live locally and he thought it would be nice to take just a few credits during Summer B to get his feet wet. He was accepted but now we are wondering if he is required to take a full load Summer B for any reason?

And how might it affect his $$ package if he doesn’t take a full load? (He’ll have Bright Futures, plus we have Florida Prepaid and some cash in a 529, so paying is not a problem… just wondering if not taking a full load will impact his Bright Futures renewal eligibility or anything else.)

I don’t believe summer course load has any impact on BF renewal eligibility. Last summer, was the first time BF paid for summer classes.

I also think that if you’re admitted for Summer B, then you are eligible for BF that summer. However, if you’re admitted for Fall 2019, then you can’t use BF for the summer term (in case you take summer classes at another school…).

But check with UF SFA.

UPDATE:
After much hunting for information, and consulting four different UF offices, I have learned that:

  1. There is no academic hours requirement for a full summer B load (6 hours) in the College of Engineering. Less than 6 hours is fine. (I don’t know whether other colleges have different rules.).
  2. Bright Futures will not pay out for Summer B unless the student takes at least 6 hours. But Prepaid will pay. And not using the BF in Summer B will have no impact on the renewal. So we’re good.
