Is a laptop necessary?

I was just on the brink of purchasing a laptop, and then the thought hit me: is spending all of this money absolutely necessary? Does BU have a bunch of accessible computers and printers? Do these computers get filled up quite quickly during the day, or is there always something open? Do students really take notes on their laptops during class, or do most kids just write with their pencils on paper?

I don't know very many people who take notes on their laptops, if any--even in SMG. The only time I ever brought my laptop anywhere was for team meetings.

Most of the large dorms have a computer lab open most of the day (Warren is usually open 12-2am during the week, I believe) and Cummington Street is open 24/7. There are a few times where the labs get a bit full (lots of people try to write papers at the last minute around noon), but you'll get to know what times are good times to go. You have a university print quota that you can use to print things (SMG kids also have an additional 500 page print quota to use in the SMG computer labs) for free.

If you're iffy about spending the money, wait and see. It's not an absolute necessity, but it's a nice convenience.
