Is a rejection from Stanford an indicator of a rejection from Princeton? :'(

I REALLY HOPE NOT. What do you think?

You’re doomed to community college.

I’ll assume you’re just asking out of nerves. If you have any depth of knowledge of top schools admissions choices then you’ll know that the correlation exists sometimes yes and sometimes no.

Stop worrying about something you can’t change.

OP, look through the results threads from previous years. Plenty of people were accepted by Princeton and rejected by Stanford, and vice versa. Also, Stanford and Princeton probably look for different types of students because they’re looking for a good “fit.”
I got rejected by Stanford, too. I hope you get in at least, though I doubt I will…

Thank you for your answers :)

Somanambulant: I wish you the best of luck for tomorrow!

They all look for different students! A close friend of mine was rejected ED from Cornell and then got in to Stanford, and it goes without saying that Stanford is the better of those two schools. Just relax, beccar0ni! I cannot promise you that you will be accepted to Princeton, but remember that the school has a different set of criteria from Stanford’s :)

I got into Princeton, Harvard, MIT and a few others but not Stanford. Such is life. Don’t worry too much.

dont worry stanford is really hard to get into. i also feel like they accept more kids from california but those arent facts or anything. you still have a chance  good luck!

I was also rejected by Stanford and I’m worried about my other schools. 6 more hours…

I was rejected by Stanford RD last year, and accepted by Princeton.

ylax- Actually Stanford does accept more California students because the original (or current) charter specifies there must be a certain percentage of in-state students. If you read the admissions stats for recent years, it is generally about 45-46% in-state for attending students.)

In contrast, Harvard is 15%, Princeton is 19%, Yale 6% in-state for the 2010 stats.

I am feeling the exact same way. I was so upset when I got rejected from Stanford yesterday and now I’m terrified that Princeton and Columbia will reject me too. I guess I got my hopes up too high. I don’t know what I will do if I don’t get in to Princeton… I do have two fallback schools, but I don’t really want to go there! I mean, I’m sure they would still be awesome, but I had higher hopes for myself.

Don’t upset yourself–many students get into the Ivies after a Stanford rejection. Stanford has to accept over 40% California residents, and fill many athletic teams, the slots left for an out of state academic kid are few, especially if you are not a URM.

Good luck this afternoon!

No, it is not.

Admissions at ANY competitive school are a complete crapshot. I get waitlisted at Stanford, rejected at Harvard and Yale. I’ve been at Princeton for a year now (accepted) and am loving it.

I know of two kids last year, both rejected by Stanford, one accepted by Princeton and the other by Harvard.

Stanford admissions decisions get more bizarre with every passing class. Your application to P will be viewed without the admissions officers knowing how Stanford judged you. I know plenty of stellar applicants admitted to Princeton and nuked by Stanford (and vice versa). Best wishes to you in your college search.

No. I was rejected from stanford yesterday but just got accepted to princeton

yesssss

Very nice! Congratulations to you!

I got rejected EA at Stanford, but accepted RD at Princeton this year. The two schools are very different, and they look for somewhat different sorts of applicants to ‘fit’.

Accepted by Stanford EA but rejected from Princeton. Then again, my school which had 10 applicants this year hasn’t sent anybody to Princeton in over ten years.
