Is ACT prep worth it?

I want to take the ACT again to greatly improve my score–mostly for scholarship benefit.
I have already graduated HS, and have purchased some books I have begun to study from. My local university offers an ACT prep course for about 500$. Now in my region that is very cheap, but it is still money and time. Do all of you think the preps are worth it? I have heard that sometimes they can be counterproductive and teach you ill test taking practices. I am really bad at test taking and really want to up my score. Should I just study super hard on my own (which I can do since I’m not in school) and keep taking the tests, or should I go into the test prep course?
(Another Note: I have a strange chronic illness that causes extreme Brain Fog. If anyone has any tips of test taking and test preparation with brain fog, I’d be forever grateful!)

in my opinion, i think paying $500 for test prep is a waste of money. classes generally consist of a large number of people, and it is extremely hard for the instructor to meet your specific needs. you can find a lot of test taking strategies online, or online programs that are designed based on your needs, for a much cheaper price. the most important thing is to put in effort and hard work yourself, taking practice tests, knowing why you got each question wrong, and constantly reviewing so you dont get the same thing wrong twice. if you are motivated and willing to put in the work, dont take the act prep course. only take it if you need someone to push you

I think it could be helpful depending on the level of support each person needs. We’ve always employed tutoring for my kids when they’ve needed it so I think test prep is much the same concept,.
