I want a more liberal, hippy-ish school. I have gotten accepted to all of the school I have applied to so far. ( McDaniel, Wooster, ect.)
I am vegan, an environmentalist, a women’s rights activist, a LGBT activist, a musician, and am interested in graphic desgin, fashion design, history, sociology, women and gender studies, environmental studies, creative writing, and astronomy.
I want to be in an quirky environment of people who want to learn and make a difference in the world. (I would like to study abroad)
Would I be happy at Allegheny?

Hi -
We visited Allegheny over the summer so I don’t have a good sense of what the student body is like. I’m just posting now to throw out the idea of Earlham and Beloit to you, if it’s not too late. We visited those schools while they were in session and they seem to align to your interests. Best of luck!

I’m certainly not an Allegheny expert, but perhaps you would want to check out Guilford as well as Goucher.
Also Oberlin which is a bit more selective in admissions.

Allegheny is a school that kind of falls in the middle on a lot of social measures. It does not really fall in to a category such as liberal, conservative, hipster, etc. That being said, I think a wide variety of students from all spectrums find a niche at Allegheny. What you won’t find is a huge number of students like you describe, but I do think you will be able to find other like minded students. I think it is a pretty accepting place of a wide variety of students. I suggest you visit if you can.

I was just researching Allegheny this afternoon and noticed that one of the English professors oversees the LGBT minor. You might find it useful to reach out to her and ask your questions.
It may be a little late, but my D who is similar to you (hippyish, musical, interested in gender studies, socially and environmentally conscious) visited overnight this past fall. She loved the academics but found the students to be not her type. The Greek scene was too prevalent for her, and she saw lots of drinking in the dorm. Kids were all very nice to her, but she had nothing in common with the ones she met. The host match was not good which was too bad. Very nice school is many respects.
