Is an Additional Recommendation advised?

I asked my summer internship mentor to write a college recommendation for me. However, I've been reading that additional recommendations must be phenomenal or else they may actually be hurtful (for instance, Yale says "You should think carefully before submitting supplementary materials with your Yale College application... There are cases in which too many submissions, or submissions that do not reflect a high level of talent, can actually work against a candidate."

I'm now reconsidering whether or not to have my mentor write the extra letter. What do you think? Are you/have you submitted additional recommendations before? How did they go?

If it won’t show a new dimension of who you are, it’s not worth it.
