Is an Increasing trend in grades OK for Harvard?

I don’t normally ever chance people but the part about you being a Pakistani Muslim Democrat living in TN stuck out to me!

Your obviously extremely bright in terms of your test taking and academic abilities. I actually think your screw up in the beginning makes you more interesting than if you had a 4.0. It’ll get their attention, especially with the 2390 you have.

I’ll be honest and say that I don’t think your extra curriculars are GREAT. They are decent but many Harvard students, not all, have AMAZING extra curricular. Their passions are usually clear and concentrated. I don’t see that concentration, perhaps, I’m being harsh though.

I don’t think you have too much to worry about from what I said above. I think Harvard is usually willing to overlook people have one not-AMAZING part of their application. That being said, I think you have a fair shot of getting in particularly because of your academics, and your extracurriculars aren’t bad, they just aren’t as great as your academics. They’ll remember you as the “smart” kid, not like the “community service kid” (for instance, someone who had like a 1000 service hours).

Anyway. This is when I tell you Ivy Admissions is a crapshot. You have a good chance. Whether you make it or not though, its all up to God now. Good Luck.

For the person above me who said you don’t have a clear concentration, he only need look at your USNCO finalist to see you obviously like and have a passion for chemistry. This plus the 2390 should give you a strong chance. On the off hand, you could look to MIT and Cal-tech, with those math and science ec’s you would have a really good chance.

Harvard: in

Your ECs don’t need to be “concentrated.” Plus for what it’s worth, they’re more impressive than mine were when I got in.

So, Eisenhower, you think I have a good chance of getting in despite my mediocre grades in my first two and a half years?

No one has a good chance of getting in. You have a chance. No one here can gauge what that chance is. That’s all there is to be said. Everything else is straw-grasping. Go do something productive rather than wait for people to hold your hand here.

You seem to be a remarkable person. Guess what? Harvard isn’t going to “make you” even if you get in. You make yourself. While I’m extremely grateful for my own HYP degree, the college didn’t make me. Please understand that. Have a great remainder of your senior year.

Ditto on what T26E4 said. For all that people are throwing numbers out there, there’s no formula to determine your statistical chances of getting in. You seem to be academically qualified, which means you have a chance, but beyond that it just depends on what the admissions office is looking for to build the class, and they look for LOTS of different things at different times with no pattern, rhyme, or reason. I wouldn’t put too much stock into what anyone here is saying as far as your “chances” except to say that you’ve got one.
