I was in the middle of finishing up the online application for Pratt, assuming that somehow both essay questions could be answered online, but I found that only the downloadable paper application allowed me to answer the second essay question, (2) Describe when and how you became interested in art, design, writing, architecture, or the particular major to which you are applying. Describe how this interested has manifested itself in your daily life.

I could write the "Why Pratt?" essay on the online application, but I feel I have so much more to say for the second question.

Does anyone know if I can answer the second question online somehow?

My high school senior son applied for painting and he got accepted for it. but he wants to change his major to industrial design. So I am trying to talk to Pratt about it. but …its so difficult to get a hold of them.
I hope changing major is possible right now.

if my son cannot change his major, hes gonna have to major in painting for the first year. Does it mean that he is wasting his first year?
does it mean that he has to study one more year at pratt (total 5 years) to get a degree in industrial design? I hope my son doesnt waste his money for having to study painting his first year.

No it should not mean he has to study an additional year. I may be wrong but as far as I know, no matter what your major is all first year students have the same foundation year of required classes. Classes for your major do not start until second year.

To the Pratt Institute!
I am a new freshmen going into the Esther Lloyed Jones hall triple dorm room.
Someone that loves korean food and culture. Someone who can speak English.

We just visited, I can confirm what mom of alex said–all first years take same Foundation, majors start second year. Our tour guide made it sound like it is quite common for people to do something diferent than they thought they would. In terms of contact, you might want to try e-mailing or calling the admission counselor for your state (get the name on line). We have found the people there to be very responsive.

While it it true that most majors at Pratt share a common foundation year program, I believe that there are exceptions (architecture, fashion design). It would be worth verifying with the department, depending on your major of choice.
