I feel like I'll be the only one that won't be going greek next year. I like to party and everything but it just doesn't seem like it's for me. I may join a business fraternity possibly though, which are a lot different from social frats I heard.

Is anyone else not joining a fraternity or sorority next year?

I think I was reading the other day that 20% of guys are greek and 25% of girls are greek.

Trust me. Most people you meet will not end up being Greek. I wouldn’t completely rule it out though. It can’t hurt to go in with an open mind and think about joining. It can open up a lot of great opportunities. (This coming from someone who isn’t Greek)

I doubt my son will even consider it - he’s a music major and will be in marching band as well, living in the music dorm (hopefully) and when he’s not in class he will be practicing his instrument. I don’t see how he would ever have time to be a frat rat, definitely not as a freshman at least.

^There are music fraternities and sororities. I have a couple of friends who have joined them this semester. So although your son will probably not consider the traditional fraternities, he may later choose to join a music fraternity (or sorority) second semester.

If the main Greek organizations aren’t your thing, there are other Greek organizations on campus. You’ve got Honor fraternities, Social fraternities, and service fraternities. Lots of options.

And if you don’t like any of those, it’s really not a big deal.
