Evil,
Yeah z-tests are for when you know the standard deviation, and if not, use the T test. Part of that is due to the sample size (if the size is large enough, then the stastic deviation does equal the population standard deviation, or is close enough).

That is true when df is around a 1000, then for things such as confidence intervals, you will see that the t-statistic is equal to the critical value for z-tests (the z*).

I have seen t-test proportions I believe. Even if they are uncommon, there is no reason they shouldnt work.

So in general, if you are doing proportions or difference of proportions, just stick with z-chart if you aren't sure about the standard deviation?

I've never seen a prop test using a t test. If you see a prop, stick to chi squared, 1 prop z, and 2 prop z.

and plus, you don't need to know the standard deviation when doing 1 prop z and 2 prop z.

I'm really confident about the AP stats test.. the only AP tests I know I'll do good on haha. 90% of the kids last year at my school got 4 or 5s. My teachers gives us countless amounts of practice tests since a little more than 2 months ago so I feel good to go.

Also, how indicative is the barrons book of the actual exam? (same level, harder, easier)

Another thing, does anyone that's taken it know certain things it really emphasizes and come up often. I know you can get the list of topics from CB, but I'm wondering which ones are really important...

you have to keep in mind though, that the easier an AP exam is, the harder it is to get a 5 because a lot of people do well on it, and they set the curve higher. AP stats is one of those exams.

i've found that multiple choice is very easy, but free response can be tricky to get absolutely full credit on. also, stats is one of those courses where a lot of "trick" questions can be asked, so make sure you have things clear (my teacher puts true and false on tests and the whole class does horrible on it).

for example, this is one of the easier ones

(T/F) A correlation coefficient of 0 implies that there is no strong relationship between x and y. (simplified)

yea, I just took the multiple choice part of an AP Stats exam in the class itself today.
he's giving us 2morrow too (should be 90 minutes to finish 40 questions, school periods are 40 minutes long)

actually, I finished the entire test..... all 40 questions.
2morrow I'll just go back through and review them all again...... MC seems quite easier than all of the tests he gave throughout the year.

I thought AP Stats was a joke. I'm not very good at math and got a 5 easily. Our class was pretty easy, too, but that was because of the teacher, so that can differ...

my stats class finished the AP MC.
I missed 3.
a bunch of people missed between 5-10.
out of 40, that's pretty good for a class where the highest average is like a 92.
guess our teacher is decent or makes his tests way 2 hard.

haven't done FR yet, but i've heard it is a little trickier and harder than the MC.
