Is applying early decision better for lower test scores?

RD does help, and you can rescind if aid does not match what you need. BU give preference because so many peopel apply due to it ranking and name they like to be assured of a certain # of those who will attend. Its also quite spendy and with wold need to accept a tone more students to make up for all those that pull out due to financial considerations

Do you have a link where BU says you can rescind your application due to financial consideration?

@smokinact That is standard ED procedure at all colleges. If your family can pay but doesn’t want to pay that much after financial aid, you will not be released from the agreement.

@TomSrOfBoston I misread @Jssaab1 's post. He was referring to RD, but he mentioned “rescind”. Why would you need to rescind a RD admission. If it is ED there is no way your should rescind.

OOPS I meant ED not RD

Did Boston University always have an ED2 option or is that new for this year?

ED2 is new this year.

I have been under the assumption that reneging on an ED agreement for merit scholarships reasons was not appropriate.

if your family can afford to pay and doesn’t want to, or if you get a better financial aid offer from another school, you cannot break the ED agreement.

That is what I thought.
