Is Athesim a contemporary idea?

Excuse me, but Buddhism is non-theistic. Please don't try to comment about things that you don't know.

In my opinion, science and religion are just different ways of explaining the same thing.

[/quote]

As my late friend Albert puts it:**

For science can only ascertain what is, but not what should be, and outside of its domain value judgments of all kinds remain necessary. Religion, on the other hand, deals only with evaluations of human thought and action: it cannot justifiably speak of facts and relationships between facts**

How is atheism neither...? I think you mean agnosticism.

And you can be scared of dying without there being some sort of religious involvement.

The issue of athiests-are-stupid/athiests-are-not-stupid and the related abhi/aspiring debate aside:

I don't see how anyone could think a statement that broad is accurate. All athiests are not teenagers, for one. Like the majority of people are stupid, so are the majority of teens. It doesn't mean that erudite, mature teens, athiests, or teen atheists with well thought-out beliefs don't exist. From the phrasing of your statement, it's pretty clear that you think all athiests are idiots. Fine. Doesn't bother me. What does bother me is the ageist use of "teen" as a derogatory word.

Also completely unrelated to the above, awb1989: You might find this comic amusing.

Some ontological arguments for the existence of God (coming from an atheist):

Australian philosopher Douglas Gasking:
1. The creation of the world is the most marvelous achievement imaginable.
2. The merit of an achievement is the product of (a) its intrinsic quality, and b) the ability of its creator.
3. The greater the disability (or handicap) of the creator, the more impressive the achievement.
4. The most formidable handicap for a creator would be non-existence.
5. Therefore if we suppose that the universe is the product of an existent creator we can conceive a greater being ? namely, one who created everything while not existing.
6. Therefore God does not exist.

David Hume:
1. The only way to prove anything a priori is through an opposite contradiction. For example, I am a married bachelor.
2. The resulting contradiction makes something inconceivable. Obviously it is impossible to have a married bachelor.
3. It is possible to comprehend anything not existing. Thus it is not inconceivable to imagine anything not existing.
4. Nothing can be proven to exist a priori, including God.

Descartes:

I exist

I have an idea of a supremely perfect being, i.e. a being having all perfections.

As an imperfect being I would be unable to create such a concept through my own thoughts.

The concept must have come from God.

To be a perfect being God must exist.

God exists.

All atheists aren't teen! That's commonsense, and i have it too. I clarified that in the next post too. I just said that teen atheists are stupid.

And not all atheists are idiots, only teen atheists are.

lol .

Wow, you're coming off so intelligent and profound.

Why are only teen atheists stupid? I probably stopped believing in god somewhere around the age of 13 or so. Does that mean I was stupid from that point until the minute I turned 20, and then I suddenly became smart again? What if I'm off in my dates and I really decided at 12...I was ok for about six months, became stupid for 10 years, then got smart again? Makes no sense.

no he's right, the second you turn 20, you get this newfound intelligence.

Going back to Page 1, but oh well:

You have contradicted yourself. First you said that atheists are stupid teens, then you changed it to teen atheists are stupid thinking that nobody would notice.
