Is attending a State Governer's School Program an Admissions Plus?

My S will be attending our states Governer's School for Engineering and Technology. Will this help in applying to colleges? Where will he put this on his college applications? Should he ask for recommendations from the programs academic staff?

Of course it will help. He will put this under the summer programs section of the application. His main recommendations for admissions should come from his school teachers. Of course, the staff from the program may provide supplementary recs.

Hawkphoenix Did you attend a governers school if so which one?

justfine, my D attended ours 2 summers ago, before her senior year. D ended up in the NE for school and I’m not sure how it was viewed up there. In our area however, it is considered a huge deal and all of the colleges know that the 600 or so kids in the state that get selected to go are among the most desirable to go after. They had a college fair for the kids, with rep’s from about 30 schools from not only our state, but surrounding ones as well all trying to sell their school to the students.

The six weeks she spent at the program she says was the best times of her life (academically speaking) and she made friends that she is sure that will be lifelong friends.

I am not aware of kids getting rec’s from the program, not to say it is never done.
