Is BC the real deal?

I’m applying to BC this year (CSOM), but a few things have made me hesitate on choosing this as my number one school. I know that the US News and Forbes rankings are not always a great indicator of how good a school is, but I was wondering how that may affect future jobs. More specifically, how Investment banking firms/ hedge funds might think of BC alumni. Would going to Cornell, Notre Dame, or UVA be worth it (assuming I am admitted)? (1480 SAT, 100 GPA… lots of leadership/ volunteering experience)

I like the campus, the Boston area, and most students seem to love it there, especially the kids from my high school. I just want to make sure that I am going to a school that I won’t regret going to or starting me out behind the other top schools.

If you are aiming for Wall Street, than the higher ranked school the better. (Of course, that assumes that you perform equally well at each school.)

Wall Street is one of the few industries left where pedigree matters. So yes, Cornell and UVa would probably be a safer bet. ND, not so clear.

For Wall Street, yes. UVA, Cornell, and ND to a lesser degree would give you the edge.

What is your class rank ? If you want investment banking or hedge fund employment, then is it safe to assume that your intended major is finance and/or math ?

top 10% of my class I don’t think im in the top 5% but not far off… and yes, finance is what I’m planning to major in.

@rm29rm29:
If you go to BC and find it’s not “the real deal”, then you only have yourself to blame.

Although not a “target” for IB (I would say semi-target), BC places quite well and has many on the street and in Boston. Check out WallstOasis to get a better idea and stay tuned in for all things IB. It’s the CC of wall street.

Yes. CSOM is tough and filled with super smart peers. Many of the Private equity firms I deal with in New England have top csom grads. Banking in nyc is a different animal but if you are a standout BC will open lots of doors.

Updated ranking on Wall Street oasis for investment banking. BC is Number 14. That’s excellent.
