I am a high school student and I am thinking about going to Berkeley. I visited Berkeley a while back and I really liked it. The problem is is that I have Aspergers and I have some trouble making friends. My parents are saying that I should look at a smaller school because it will be easier to make friends, but I really like Berkeley. I was wondering if a big school like Berkeley is right for someone with Aspergers?
Make sure you live on-campus and join clubs of your interest, that’s a fundamental rule to make friends at college. I am pretty sure people at California are not too judgmental. After all, UCs do recognize students with disabilities all time, from the news to college admissions. As long as you’re not intimidated by the large presence, I think you should be fine if you go there.
Make sure you contact the Disabled Students Program at Berkeley, before you apply, and find out what paperwork needs to transition to Berkeley from your high school.
