Hey everyone! I was just wondering for EC's and awards, does making it to Boy's State for 2012 count as something extraordinary? There were 340 boys selected from the entire state and at Boy's State I won Best City Clerk and Best Lobbyist, my city won Capital City, my county won Best County...do these accolades help significantly? Or are they just another "eh" EC?

Thanks! :D

No one has any feedback? D: Or is Boy’s State just not well known enough?

Apparently not well known. Never heard of it.

Boy’s State and Girl’s State should be included especially if selection to attend was competitive. My DS’11 was selected and it was a great experience. My DD’13 wasn’t unfortunately selected by the counselors, however we will play up other aspects of her resume.

The big prize is Governor so I will be honest that I don’t think the other awards will be as big. What matters more is what you got out of it and how well you can articulate that experience within your application.

Congratulations again!

it really depends on the state you’re in. in my state, boy’s state is a joke and everyone makes it in. even in the competitive states tho, it only ranks as a medium-low honor, somewhere around the range of a state award.

Well I was Surgeon General and was the lobbyist for the only law that was passed by our senate/house as a proposition so hopefully that is prestigious? What other EC’s can I still aim at achieving this late…just months before apps start.

no, that isn’t “prestigious” because once again, it is a state award, not a national one.

I was selected to the ODP All-State soccer team in WI for three consecutive years. Just because I didn’t play for the U17 national team doesn’t mean my achievements were not prestigious.

That’s a bit asinine to say. The OP has obviously done some remarkable things with something he/she is very passionate about.

^sports are in a different league. and yes, i would classify that achievement as “prestigious”, if you must go with that term. to be blunt, boy’s state is a joke. you do not learn anything during a week of “model” government and most of the kids attending have no further ambitions besides a week away from home. so, yes, the OP may be passionate, but no, the OP is not doing anything extraordinary.

CentralFC: also, you are a stuckup narcissist. may i refer you to his post on a recent chance thread, ending with “what are my chances?”

his heartless reply (direct quote):

“For you, awful.”

That statement was for someone who hijacked the OP’s thread.

Reading comprehension ftw.
