Is Brown too much of a reach for me?

Hey, I already applied but I would like to get some feedback from CC on my chances? I’m a little nervous that my GPA will kill my chances. I transferred from a school where I did nothing to a selective charter school where I was immediately swept away by the massive workload and I did poorly for some time before adjusting and doing about as well as I did at my old school. My guidance counselor will explain this in her rec.

race:black
GPA:3.295/4.0 (I transferred to an extremely difficult school and it took me a long time to adjust to the workload)
ACT: 33 (36M, 30R, 30E, 35S)
SATII: math2: 800 physics: 780
ECs: vice president of amnesty club, vice president of weightlifting club, precalculus tutor, conducted research at Clemson University and currently working on my research paper and presentation, varsity track and field for the past five years.
Intended majors: math and physics

Hard to say, they will drill down to your grades each year and note your upward trend. Sounds like you had a real turnaround and if your essays are strong and support that maturity and they grades at the higher level are sustained enough for them to confirm that turn around it is possible. It will be an outlier.

Good luck to you! Have you visited Brown? My nephew recently went there, from CA. Did you apply to the special program at Carleton College? My son applied there and is awaiting a decision on his ED application. You have a very good ACT score. Another school I would recommend, if you are looking for a excellent school with lots of smart interesting students, a low key, liberal atmosphere, little or no Greek system and a fair amount of pot-smoking v. drinking (so I hear!) is Grinnell College, in Grinnell, Iowa. They provide very good financial aid and have a lot of diversity (geographically, racially and economically). They purposely look for students who are from outside the upper Midwest, including internationally. My son had an overnight visit, and his host sounds like he has a background very similar to yours. https://www.grinnell.edu/financial-aid/need-based-scholarships It was a tough choice for early decision, as he had a great experience at both Carleton and Grinnell. All the best for your future!
