I thought that I’d apply to Bryn Mawr, because I really liked it when I visited, adored my interviewer/admissions officer, and it’s also free. The thing is, I’m homeschooled, and they have a whole list of requirements. Most of them are no problem, but they require four letters of recommendation! I’m hesitant to apply because I already will have a shortage of teachers to ask for recommendations, and will likely have to double up on most, if not all of them. (Since most of my schools accept common app, but not all, i.e. my physics prof will have to write my MIT rec and a common app rec…) Asking them to write two is already a kind of crappy thing to do, and I don’t want to ask someone to write three. sigh
Suggestions?

Did you get this information from your visit? I believe in the past, only two letters of rec were required for homeschooled students.
I do think it’s worth it.

Plus, the MIT rec shouldn’t be too different from the BMC one? Teachers usually just change the name of the school for each letter.

If you like the school it is worth it. I really don’t think it is a big deal for a teacher to change the address and send an extra few letters of recommendation. Just be sure to thank them for their effort on your behalf.

I don’t see where it says four letters of recommendation. It just says the two letters can’t be from your parents.

Wow they changed it! I visited just three weeks ago and four was still policy–the website obviously changed to reflect it. Thanks! :D

*I should say, there was an addendum on the website that required two letters of recommendation for homeschoolers, and at the bottom of the page it mentioned that those two were in addition to the common app ones.

I think it’s absolutely worth the effort. Teachers know to expect letters of recommendation–as long as you ask them in advance and are accommodating to their schedules, I don’t see this as a huge hurdle. You’ll be spending four years in college so it’s important to make sure you find a play you’ll be happy at. Don’t let asking a favor of two extra teachers deter that. Good luck!

Hey! I’m homeschooled too, and I’m also going to be applying to Bryn Mawr. I’m glad to see I’m not alone!!! :D/

@thtrandomgirl no way! That makes me super excited! I haven’t met another homeschooler on here yet, let alone one applying to Bryn Mawr too! So what are you interested in studying, and what other colleges are you applying to, if you don’t mind my asking? (Sorry haha, I get super comfortable with other homeschoolers, like YES SOMEONE ELSE WHO UNDERSTANDS HOMESCHOOL APPLICATION MISERY) ^-^
