Is campus visit helpful at University of Washington

Hi,

My son is extremely interested in applying to the cs department at UW seattle. I am wondering if a summer campus visit, probably including talks/interviews, will aid in their decision on acceptance?
Could anyone with similar experiences please share with me?

According to CollegeBoard, “level of interest” is not considered at all during the application process. University of Washington uses the “holistic” approach (though I’m not quite sure if any colleges truly use that), so the most important things would be his courses, grades, test scores, etc.

However, even if it isn’t beneficial for his acceptance, it’s still pretty beneficial to him. Visiting a campus can help him decide whether or not he would really like the college, and talking with the students can help him get kind of an inside look.

my dad went to that school for grad school and he did research there, so I got to visit the school when I was 4 and 5. BEAUTIFUL campus and they have a top notch CS. According to my dad, it’ll be a lot tougher if you’re out of state but as long as he has shown a proficiency in math and overall scholarship, visits don’t matter.

(my dad was in the class of 96 for grad school so it isn’t that much different now)

Visiting the campus will not effect whether your son gets accepted or not. However, if you are from out of state, I think that he will have a fairly good chance of getting accepted (if his stats are quite strong of course) because of the current budget situation occurring here. Actually, this year they accepted many out of state students in hopes of relieving the state’s financial crisis.
