Is Chapman University ultra right wing conservative

My daughter is thinking of applying for acting for film and I’m just wondering if the student body would be too right wing for her. Since the school is in ultra conservative orange county I’m wondering if the student body reflects that or is there a nice diverse group of both liberal and conservative. I know it’s a great school with a great film department, I’m just concerned if she would fit in socially. Thanks so much!

My daughter starts in the fall, so she does not yet have personal experience. However, we looked in to this issue and asked questions on tours and events. Evidently Chapman is a pretty good mixture…with more liberal students (or at least they are more active). There are clubs for both. Good luck to your daughter as she goes through the college search. We toured many California universities, but my daughter just felt at home at Chapman. UCI was a close second but she elected to attend Chapman. We have never lived in Orange County so that was not a factor in her putting these two schools at the top of her list.

My son graduated from Chapman last weekend, and he was in Dodge College. NO, not a right wing school. I would say a healthy mix of all views represented at the school; he had professors who were liberal and some that were conservative. We’re from northern CA and find OC in general more conservative than our home, but Chapman is not a conservative school.

Sure OC is conservative, but OC is also a big place. There are plenty of people, with plenty of diverging opinions.

I’m quite sure many Chapman students are Feeling The Bern…

I’m a current student at Chapman. I’m from MA and very liberal. I’ve noticed that there are more conservative people in my main campus classes, and much more liberal people in my Dodge classes. That being said, since Chapman is in California, even the conservative students in my main campus classes still tend to lean liberally on social issues. So, for me, that works out just fine. I’ve had zero issues trying to fit in politically at school!

Thank you for sharing that. I appreciate it!

Does anyone know If my daughter were to get into Chapman either in acting or singing, would she be able to take art classes and or dance classes as well?

The only people who would consider Chapman to be ultra right wing conservative are ultra left wing liberals.
