Is coding considered an extracurricular activity?

I've recently started learning how to code through Codecademy. When applying to a university in the future, will knowing how to code be a notable extracurricular activity, despite the fact that I do not want to study computer science (I want to study physics)? Thank you for your help.

No, unless you use it in a productive activity. Just saying “I code” means nothing if you don’t start a successful website, app, etc

If you spend a significant amount of time on coding, then yes. You probably have done some more notable activities, so coding isn’t on the top of your list (on the Common App).

Same question here. Could i put it in the 10th spot?

To me extracurricular activity means something like a school club, so I would treat coding as more of a hobby/interest.

Extracurricular just means outside of the normal school curriculum, but in practice I think it means anything you spend significant amounts of time doing for enjoyment or enrichment - even if it’s not sponsored by the school.

So yes, coding could be an EC, if you spend a significant amount of time doing it. You don’t necessarily have to be producing deliverables yet since you’re just learning.
