I am currently at college and have chosen to major in my degrees. I get good grades, but Im starting to think it all doesn't really mean anything. I mean, what is my degree even worth? I think that maybe college is a big scam. Internet, what is your thoughts?

well even if it is a scam, the whole world believes the scam. in today’s world a college degree is pretty important to getting a decently paying job. so you have to just follow along with what the rest of the world does, if that makes sense.

Your degree is worth showing you can stick with something and finish it. And there are a lot of jobs where a college degree is necessary to get hired and/or promoted. It is MUCH harder to go back later when you have other obligations (mortgage, kids, etc). Get it done now if you can.

Depends on what degree you’re getting and what you’re planning on doing with that degree. For example, solely an undergrad degree in biology is pretty much useless unless you go on to professional school (even grad school is questionable. What can you possibly do with a PhD in bio besides teach (in which case you have to deal with the constant anxiety of not getting funding the next year)?).

Im going to major in communications, but I feel like I couldve saved a lot of time and money by just interning at major comppanies for a few years instead of coming to college? What do you guys think?

You need the piece of paper.

So even if I go to college, not learn a single thing, get straight c’s, and just party my heart out, as long as I have a degree I will be worth something to society?

The question you need to ask yourself is what you would do if you weren’t in college. What job would you get? How would you support yourself? Do you need a degree for whatever job you want? Not everyone needs to go to college, and if you’re going to pay tens of thousands of dollars to go to college, you should have a good reason for it. It’s possible to make a living without a college degree. If you have a plan for how you would support yourself without a degree and you are perfectly happy with that plan, then don’t go to college. It’ll still be there if you ever decide that you want it.

How would you go to college and not learn a single thing? That’s on you, not on the school.
If you don’t want to go to college–don’t go. College won’t miss you.
If you change your mind later, college will still be there.
It sounds like you are not yet ready for college. So don’t go–now. Take some time to figure out yourself, and life, and when you do, make the choices that are right for you. Which may, or may not, include college.

I believe its a necessary scam. No more, no less. There are a LOT of jobs that really don’t need a college degree but “require” one. Some things (IE engineering, medical, etc) obviously require formal schooling, but in my opinion a lot of jobs could be done without a degree/using minimal amount of information learned in school. Theres a lot of stupid people that graduate from college that are book smart and cant hold a job/work with people.
