Is college assignment random?

You can request to change colleges after your assignment, but almost no one does it. It’s shameful. Unless you have a good reason, like if your sibling is there.

“Better” can’t be quantified, but here are some hard facts:
-Lovett dorms are terrible. There’s a reason Lovett doesn’t experience the same housing shortage as colleges like Baker and Will Rice.
-Will Rice is the most competitive. They drill competition into you so that you’ll succeed at Beer Bike.
-Baker is fairly competitive.
-Sid Rich traditionally breaks the rules during Beer Bike each year and gets disqualified from the competition. So if you actually like competitive biking…and winning at it…
-Sid Rich serves the worst food. Almost no one will contend this.
-The North servery serves the best food and is consistent in doing so. This may or may not change this fall with the new serveries at the new north colleges.
-Hanszen is the college nearest to the main quad.
-The new north colleges will be the nearest to the engineering quad.
-The above colleges are roughly tied in proximity to the biosciences and chemistry buildings.
-Generally, the newer the college, the better the dorms. Martel currently has the best dorms, though the new colleges this fall may have better.

its not shameful. Its just not encouraged as its a lot of paperwork

Some people never fit in and thus transfer to another college. Its a small number though
