CC Members,
Could anybody look up the schools I attended and now attend and give me any input on if I have a good chance at going to a very good school? I attended Fallbrook Union High School for freshman and sophomore year, and now I am a junior at Guajome Park Academy Charter. Also, my school counselor told me I should start in with some Community College classes. Is CC frowned upon in the world of 4 year colleges? And are charter schools mainly or usually better than public schools, I mean, I know that charter schools are funded by the public district to some degree, but are they any better? Also I live in Southern California (San Diego County to be exact). Leave a post if you need to know the city for any reason.

IDK about Cali, but in Virginia there is a near-guaranteed acceptance at UVA and W&M is you get a certain GPA at community College after 2 years.

If you don’t get into a UC out of HS then you can do so through the CCs. I don’t believe you can through the Cal State system. CC is an excellent way to save $ while getting your education.

You can in the Cal State system, but it’s much harder. UCs and CCs have a transfer deal while UCs and Cal States don’t.

What is your situation?

Is your GC recommending starting at a CC because you’re stats aren’t very high or because of money concerns?

What are your stats?

What can you afford?

Has your GC recommended that you begin taking CC classes while still enrolled in HS? Many HS students do do this, especially if they are ready for more advanced coursework that is not offered by their HS. If that is your situation, and your counselor thinks that you are ready to take one or two classes at your local CC, you should think about it. It will look good on your record.

As for charter schools, some are good, some are bad - just like regular schools. What really matters is if you can get a better education at the charter school that you are thinking of attending than at the non-charter that you would be leaving.

…sounds like delta007 is one of those precocious kids that can handle community-college work while still in high school to get the breadth of course selection hs (or his or her native hs) does not have.

By all means do this, take classes at the cc…

In response to mom2collegekids, no, my GC has told me to take CC classes along with AP, and IB classes. I should be taking the CC classes just in case I do not get into a full IB schedule because if you don’t take full IB classes then you can not graduate with a full IB diploma from the IBDP(International Baccalaureate Diploma Program).
