Is Computer Engineering an...unwise major?

“which you can easily get from all sorts of sources.”

 • Really? You have any references? What’s a software engineer making today?

(Does the BLS actually forecast wage data? I thought they reported 2006 figures.)

Well, you can look it up. Payscale is a popular site. And different industries have their own studies so you may have to do different, specific searches for various industries (I saw figures for computer programmer pay in the gaming industry from 2008 on gamasutra, it was on par with the best engineering salaries).

“Well, you can look it up.”

 • I did, and you seem to think that the BLS doesn’t know what it’s talking about. I imagine they do.

“Payscale is a popular site.”

 • What makes you think they’re reliable? I’ve used them before and am summarily unimpressed.

“And different industries have their own studies so you may have to do different, specific searches for various industries”

 • Generally speaking, if you’re going to discredit a well-established source, you will have something as good (or, preferably, better) as an alternative.

"(I saw figures for computer programmer pay in the gaming industry from 2008 on gamasutra, it was on par with the best engineering salaries). "

 • I don’t even know what to make of this. What the heck is this “gamasutra” and why should I believe what they say more than the average sentiment expressed on Xavier Renegade Angel?

I remain unconvinced. Thanks for sharing these… uh… alternatives to the BLS OOH.
