I always thought about going there but after hearing stuff about it it sounds like a part from partying there's nothing to do in Ithaca.

Let's just say it's FAR from identical to the ATL.

like country town?

Walking around Ithaca is always a pain in the @$$, having to squeeze in between all the cows and having to watch out for the filthy pigs milling around.

you can go cow tipping too, its not all partying.

lol...i've never lived in the country not in Jamaica and not in the U.S. i love the thought of Cornell but that might be a problem

it's not hick country rural, but it's not a big city either. College town puts it best - don't worry, you wont be without any essentials as there's plenty of places to shop.

visitithaca.org

umm have you guys been to the route 13 wal-mart?..ithaca is kinda hickish...what saves cornell is the intellectual atmosphere...

you mean to tell me there's a Wal-Mart out there that isn't hickish????

yes...the wal-mart plano is rather nicer...

Every Walmart i've been to (including one in South Florida) has been extremely hickish and/or hoboish. I went to one in NJ (right outside NYC) and I think I can safely say I'm one of the few people who's been to a Walmart in Wyoming. Pretty much spells Ithaca.

i dont know why a bourgeois would have the need to frequent a wal-mart...

Their prices are hard to beat. Cheap DVDs too. They also have beef jerky for 1/2 the price of the super markets around me. I cant say I go often though.

btw fd, that was meant with a negative connotation I assume...

I'm an ILRie, I'm not allowed to shop at Wal-Mart.

also Ithaca isn't hick - half the town is made up of private college students and the other half works to serve these students (profs, researchers, etc.).

The only 'hicky' (not to be confused with Hickey Freeman) part are some of the townies. They're usually at the Ithaca commons though.

omg like you talk just like me.. like
yea its like rural but its not that bad. theres stuff to do on campus anyways. and theres restaurants and stuff in itacha. its not like your living on a farm.

life revolves around cornell...so unless you're hooking up with the locals...

thnx for the feedback

Ya don't worry. When u drive there u will be like "ahhh farms everywhere!" but once u actually get to the college town it's really really nice. It actually has a cool vacationy feel to it. Ur getting away from the big city for a nice college town.

It doesn't feel rural in the least, unless you're one of the adventurous few who ventures outside of the general Cornell area.

hahaha. My town has one street of stores, and the nearest mall is 30 minutes away. To me, Ithaca is quite the bustling town. It definitely doesn't feel at all rural to me, but maybe that's because I come from a strong farming town.
