So...I have been accepted at Cornell. But I don't have any financial aid. Which means I would be taking out loans and begging relatives for money. ;) Ha. Anyways - do people find Cornell really worth it? I have a chance to attend two other great schools (UW and UVA) at way lower costs. However, my dream has always been an Ivy League school and Cornell has great programs for what I want. Sadly - the other schools do as well - so it makes the choice very hard.

My dream is to do International Law - and having Cornell on a resume and transcript looks great when applying to law school.

So basically - do you think Cornell is worth how much we pay? I think last years tution was 48,000$ Thats alot. Also - do people know if professors teach classes or TA's. I wouldn't want an education that was all taught by TA's.

Thanks for any and all help.
And Congrats to all transfers that have gotten accepted !!!!! :)

Forget about the Ivy League label. It should have no bearing in your decision. Going to Cornell just for the sake of it being an Ivy is, for lack of a better word, stupid.

Now, if Cornell has been your dream school and you are willing to have that kind of debt when you graduate, then attend Cornell. If you think that you will be happiest at Cornell, then you should go. If it offers you the best education out of all those schools, then you should go. I don't think TAs teach at Cornell.

[I can't compare to UW or UVA. I'm not looking at those schools.]

the TAs depend on what class, but i think that overall you get the professors. i think that it is worth it if cornell has the programs you want, seems to be the right "fit" and just is your dream. i am in a really similar boat...i am a transfer student who got very little aid, but there is an appeal process!! if there is a situation that you think that has been looked over by the finaid office, then you should appeal. i am still waiting on the results for mine...but i will 99% be going to cornell in the fall.

Cornell offers great opportunities, is challenging academically and yes.. looks good on the resume. But if it's worth it is up to you. You should consider other factors like at which school you would most enjoy your four years, how much debt you would have, and how much you think it would affect your ability to get into law school (maybe look at the different university's stats?).

What would your major be? Someone that takes similar classes could answer the TA question.

First, I'd like to clear up that I should have restated my post. Going to an IVY League school is NOT all about the name - for me. However, it is a HUGE acomplishment for my family. No one in my family has even hoped to dream this far and I acomplished it. It's a pretty big deal for us.

BTW: my major will be Goverment (conentration: International Relations) and English as my second major. I may decide to minor in French as well. My goal is to apply for law school - and do International Law.

Becuase I am going to be a 3rd year transfer - I have already finished two solid years of prereqs and should be able to jump in. I know what I want to do and have already shown the ability to do well in it.

I guess the fact that I am a 3rd year also signifigantly cuts down on some debt others would have to face if they went all four years...

I would seriously consider your debt when thinking of college - especially for an undergraduate degree. I have a friend who went to Cornell both undergrad and law school, and the amount he pays a month for his college loans is more than his rent. He lives in NYC, and his rent is close to $2,000/month. If your heart is really set on Cornell, have you tried looking to scholarships? There are a lot out there.
