For the Fall 2018 semester, I am attending CSU Stanislaus as a Freshman. I have now been hearing a lot of negative comments about the university I am going to attend. Is it really that bad? I really am just going for two years and am transferring to a UC anyway.
P.S. I don’t mean to be disrespectful but I don’t want people to tell me that I am better off attending a community college. I know but I made a choice not to go that route.
OP: It might help if you state in a polite fashion the type of comments heard that are of concern to you
For example, were the comments about social life, academics, dorms, etc…
I would say this of any CSU - not just Stan State - if your objective really is to transfer to a UC, you might be better served at a CC where you can use TAG to pave your way through the transfer. Though, at this point in the summer, most CCs freshman GE classes are pretty packed, so, heading that direction could cost you a semester or more. You also need to be honest with yourself about your ability to earn the GPA it will take to transfer - think 3.2 to 3.8 depending on your target school and major.
Stan State is a decent school and offers a credible degree to its students but, like a lot of CSUs, most students live with their parents/family and commute. So, there’s not a lot of buzz on and around campus - which doesn’t lend itself to the ‘Freshman experience’ many people are looking for. There are clubs, frats, sororities and the like so, you can find social fun and parties if that’s what you are looking for.
Since you already signed up, i presume you have toured the school and perhaps already selected your classes. What are your impressions of it? What do you think would be better at a CC and UC?
