<p>No…but I did for peace of mind in case there was some sort of emergency…but the account was in my name too…bills came home which I paid and I could follow it online…the card did build up some credit rating for my son too…it was only used with prior discussion for things like car repairs, airline tickets, books, Panther bucks when needed…maybe not necessary if enough money is in the debit account at all times but i felt it was a good way to get him used to a credit card…and he now has one in his name which he pays…</p>

<p>No, you don’t. While it is smart to start building credit, a debit card is definitely enough. Just make sure you have the ability to add funds to the account in case of emergency.</p>

<p>No credit card here. DD has a debit card and I make a monthly deposit for rent, food, and expenses and she manages.</p>
