@uclapack - my daughter is a sophomore and in a sorority and says this group is a non entity on campus. They may lurk below the surface but she’s never come into contact with it or met anyone in it, so it shouldn’t be a concern to any prospective students.
@myjanda -thank you for the response. My daughter is starting in the communications program next fall and this was just a concern that arose through our research. I didn’t think it was a big issue, but your response helps.
On another note, has her sorority experience been positive? I know that time considerations and rush requirements vary throughout the country, so I was just curious since my daughter may have some interest at American. Thanks
@uclapack - she said it was the best decision she’s made - the sisters are very supportive and yet because there is no house she stills socializes with all the kids from the dorms and classes she’s met, and so do her other sorority sisters, and overall it’s less intense than I imagine other schools might be. The only negative we’ve seen is the time commitment at times - when she has mandatory meetings or during rush week when the girls are pretty busy. We did make it a condition that if her grades suffered she would have to quit but so far so good!
