Is everyone at Cornell really smart?

Cornell is awesome. I could go on and on about why I picked Cornell. I got in ED as a legacy, but let me tell you, I probably could have recieved acceptance RD as well. My brief qualifactions include a 2200 SAT, 3/270, GPA (UW): 3.97 at a very competitive public school, not to mention I’ve taken every science and math AP and expect to be in the running for Seimens. So yes, I could have waited until RD to weigh my other acceptances with Cornell’s. I had all ready had my Harvard and Princeton interviews before I applied to Cornell. Guess what, in the end I would have picked Cornell. So I disagree with England, Cornell is much different than HYP (which are all much more similar reletive to each other) and is the best place for many people.

^stop necrobragging but yes many ppl ed’d with very high stats -_-

Cornell is a great school, and yeah, it will obviously have a lot of “smart” people.

However, I think it’s pointless to discuss “smart” in college - how well you do in college will depend on your time mgmt / study skills much more than your natural intelligence. What’s more important is to study efficiently and balance your life well. At the end, your “smartness” will not matter very much.

“smartness”, in my mind, constitutes time management and study skills too. If a person is only naturally gifted in learning but doesn’t manage his time well or have good study habits, I don’t think he would have made it this far unless he got really lucky. Many people who say things like “I’m not doing any work” but still manage an A in difficult classes or gets very very high sat scores probably have worked hard in his own time without telling people.

In my mind, this more broad definition of “smartness” will matter.

Definitely not…but I’d say most of the engineers I know are smart. Well I haven’t met a stupid engineer yet

Well, this isn’t a completely good example seeing as this kid hasn’t gotten in yet, but just the fact that he (thinks he) has a chance at getting in says something. He is supposedly being recruited for lacrosse and honestly in my opinion he is an idiot. He does pot and drinks tons and in addition to that he has a C average (this is at a private school so maybe equivalent to a B at public school, which is still not great). He was going to Cornell over spring break and I don’t know if they are recruiting him yet, but I know Duke is which is about equal.

^

I don’t know why you are bringing up the story of that kid. Recruited athletes can get into Harvard with 1800 on SAT.

antiflammer is just a hater, he is arguing to much.
