Is Federal Aid per semester or per year?

Thank you so much for the detailed response.

I have one more question about the FAFSA: so I filled it, submitted it, and received an email that said the following:

"You were recently issued a Federal Student Aid PIN to sign your 2011-2012 FAFSA.
Your name, date of birth, and Social Security Number (SSN) has been verified
with the Social Security Administration (SSA) and your PIN has been confirmed.

You should not disclose or share your PIN with anyone, including commercial
service providers. Keep your PIN in a safe location. If your PIN is misplaced
or stolen, go to [The PIN Web Site - Federal Student Aid](http://www.pin.ed.gov) and change your PIN."

So I logged on to the FAFSA website, clicked on “view processed information”, and it said that my identity was NOT verified with the SSA and that I need to submit additional documents to my schools Financial Aid office.

I don’t understand. According to the email, my identity has been verified but the website is telling me the opposite! Why?

Finally, when will I get a final confirmation as to what my actual pell grant amounts to?

That means that for some reason the social security administration is not confirming your identity. This sometimes happens with naturalized citizens, but often is just a snafu. You need to contact your school as requested. Do it ASAP so that processing of your aid is not delayed.

The final amount of aid will come in a financial aid award from your school. All federal aid is determined and awarded by the school.

So which school do I contact? The college I am planning on attending, or my high school?

Your college.

Are you a US citizen or eligible permanent resident?

I am a citizen.

You shouldn’t have any problem then. The school will ask to see some paperwork so they can confirm your citizenship.

Lol I hope so! I’m just worried about my last 2 years. It’ll be very hard to manage. I just hope the salary is what I expect it to be ($90,000-$100,000 starting according to payscale). :)

Hey man , sorry for bothering you, I just saw your answer in one of financial question, and I was wondering if you can help me out, I am receiving 5500$ from the financial aid and this semester my bill was around 2400$ and the Financial Aid made a payment of 2700$ so do that means that I am gonna get back around 300$ because that is the difference between 2400 and 2700$ or not? You told this guy that he is receiving an additional 5500$ from ‘’ Stafford Loan’’ I dont really know what is that , but his case is similar as my, and I did not apply for anything , I just apply for the financial aid (FAFSA) , I have a friend from last year and he receive around 1800$ back in a check, and he was taking more classes that I and he was receiving the same amount of money than I , which is 5500$ so I am a little confused about that, thanks for taking time to read tthis and I will aprreciatee if you can help me out.
BTW I am from NJ
