Is Georgetown worth going to if...

...one doesn't plan on majoring in anything international? I know they have the FLL which gives GU great language departments and ling department, but how good is it really compared to it's Ivy-calibur peers?

Is this a stupid question? >_<

Depends on the language. Also, it should be noted that some of the strongest language programs aren't found at Ivy-league or even top-level schools. Middlebury, for instance, is probably the overall best language school in the nation, while the stronger Spanish programs tend to be in the Southwest, French is strong in Louisiana and Maine, etc.

How does FLL compare to Middlebury or other LACs? How about undergrad linguistics?

Rankings for undergraduate programs are pretty rare and nebulous, so I can't say anything definitive. FLL as a whole, and its teachers, have a pretty good reputation, from what I know. The linguistics major is pretty challenging, according to my friend, don't really know how that compares - you'd probably have to ask a specialist in the field.

Any idea what stats, etc... are needed to be considered for admission to G-Town for business ?? The acceptance rate looks pretty low.... My S has decent stats, then again, so do most kids applying I guess.. 1450 / 2230, 4.5(W), 15 of 575, editor of paper, capt. of varsity tennis, some other ECs...
Thanks.

The original post is just offensive

Georgetown is one of the best schools in the nation, and in many different departments. Is it 'worth' going to? In my opinion, it is one of the best schools in the nation in terms of its 'worth'

I'm sorry that I offended you, but I didn't mean to sound so... elistist? I know I'm not a shoe-in at Georgetown, being the great school it is. I just wanted to know if it was the best possible thing I could get for what I wanted. Again, I'm sorry if I offended you or anyone else.

georgetown is one of the best schools in the entire world. i would say top 10. it is totally worth if you can get in. international stuff is only a part of georgetown- your in d.c. the capital of the country, of the country that pretty much sets the trend for the rest of the world.

It depends on what you are looking for. If you want to study engineering (or some other science or math subject), it probably is not "worth" going to. Georgetown's humanities and social science, as well as languages, are its best points.

One thing I would say: Students (or so I was told by three current GU students on separate occasions) rarely venture into DC past the first few weeks on campus. So being in the capital is not as big as it could be.
