Recently I was deciding if graduating early is a good idea. If I were to graduate early I would have 33 credits and everything you need to graduate (4 yrs English,6 yrs math, 3 history, 6 yrs science, etc) although I want to go to Cornell university, mainly because my mom went there and loved it but I am also looking at Brown and Princeton. Is there anyone that graduating early can affect my chance of getting into one of these schools?
The average for credits for most students with 4 years is 24.
Rigor of the courses is far more important than numbers of credits. In most cases, graduating early would be a bad idea for applying to Ivies because the transcript would be less rigorous compared to what it could be with an additional year of advanced courses. However, there may be exceptions for very, very advanced students. What are the most advanced courses in each subject that you will have taken if you were to graduate early? What additional courses would you take if you don’t graduate early?
If you have exhausted the courses available in your HS sometimes the school system will pay for a year of community college.
College calculus, physics, up to enc1107, my high school offers dual enrollment so most of the classes I am taking now and the classes I plan to take are either IB or dual enrollment.
Can you be more specific? For example, what level of calc are you taking during junior year?
Calculus with analytic geometry
I have read that Calculus with Analytic Geometry 1 and 2 is similar in level to AP Calculus BC. If you take that as a junior, you would be able to take calc 3 as a senior. You can weigh whether having calc 3 on your transcript is enough of an advantage to not graduate early. Consider your competition: many, many kids who apply to elite colleges will have the equivalent of calc BC or calc 1 & 2 on their transcripts (the course you are planning to take junior year). Fewer will have calc 3 on their transcripts, though there are some high schools with enough students at that level to teach a calc 3 class.
Bear in mind that college admissions officers are not impressed by early graduation.
Personally, I am against early graduation in nearly all circumstances, simply because high school is free and college is not. You should use your high school eligibility to take some more rigorous courses, then take that knowledge with you to college.
