Is it a big deal if I don't volunteer for 3 hours a week at the university hospital?

I volunteered in high school and it was a good experience then but I doubt that I will get much out of just 3 hours a week and those hours could probably be better spent somewhere else(with an organization I want to be a big part of, or other volunteering experience)
I'm working in a lab that has me doing scut work for now but seems pretty promising because the PI is telling me about projects that he is trying to get going that he wants me to be a part of. I plan to devote a lot of time to that when I can.
I really do enjoy volunteering and do a variety of things but is it a bad thing if I don't volunteer at the hospital when there is the opportunity of a huge university hospital?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I just want some opinions on this specifically.

As always, you'll be better off doing something you enjoy, rather than trying to guess at what you think the medical admissions committee wants to see.

You need to volunteer, but it doesn't have to be a hospital. Volunteer with an organization or activity that you care about and can get passionate for and you'll be fine. If you absolutely feel like it's necessary to be health related, look for organizations like the American Cancer Society, Ronald McDonald House, Race for the Cure, the American Red Cross or whatever strikes your fancy - there are an absolute ton of organizations covering all sorts of causes from AIDS/HIV to Organ Donation to Parkinson's Disease.
