Is it a ghettoish area around U chicago?

I haven't been there!!
One of my friend got into U chicago but he didn't like it because of the ghettoish atmosphere it has...

BUMP

Don't be obnoxious, vgboy: use the search function.

The area around it is not ghetto.

The area to the east of the area around chicago is more ghetto and the area to the north used to be but has gotten much better (low income housing gone)

I visited. It was fine. It was neither threatening nor sketchy just poorer.

I live in Chicago. Hyde Park is NOT ghetto. If you think it's ghetto, go visit Garfield Park and get some perspective. However, it's not a posh neighborhood either. It's a normal urban area that is 100% safe in the day time. Late at night, walk with friends and you'll be okay. Also, it's not that far from neighborhoods that aren't so great, but that's the thing about Chicago; you can go from the richest neighborhoods to the poorest neighborhoods real fast.

In short, you'll be fine.

UChicago, Columbia, Yale, Penn...why is it that every elite university managed to get itself surrounded by very non-elite neighbors?

(yes, I hate the poor)

"UChicago, Columbia, Yale, Penn..."

...Stanford, Georgetown, Northwestern, Harvard, UCLA?

Just luck, and some nasty politics (real estate speculators and block busters with political connections) in the 50s-60s. But that's a whole 'nuther story.
